Ten Thousand Waves

History and Philosophy

ten thousand waves

In 1981 a small bathhouse, eight outdoor hippie hot tubs, and one massage room was built on the site of an adobe ranch house and corral. Santa Feans scratched their heads wondering why anyone would travel 3 miles up the road from town just to take a bath. Over time, these humble beginnings became the world-class Japanese-style spa that guests came from all over the world to enjoy.

Bathing—then and now—has always been our focus. There is powerful healing and release gained by sitting in hot water, surrounded by nature. Add time out for yourself, relaxation with friends, family, and perfect strangers, beautiful food, and the magic of human touch. All of this has been available since our inception—we just do it now with a little more panache.
