Hygiene

Some common diseases like seasonal flu and COVID are overwhelmingly transmitted by aerosols. We take measures to reduce airborne pathogens, including HEPA filtration in every massage room, ventilation throughout the property, and UV light.

To prevent the transmission of pathogens, we have always paid special attention to the cleanliness of our water and surfaces. We also pay close attention to indoor air quality.

Some of the things we do at Ten Thousand Waves to make your visit as safe as possible:

  • We monitor the air in every building to ensure adequate fresh air intake
  • Every hot tub environment has its own private changing area
  • There are multiple private gender-neutral changing rooms
  • We have the choice of year-round heated outdoor dining 

Sanitation

We have always emphasized the cleanliness of our facilities 

  • Public areas are disinfected regularly 
  • Hot tubs and massage rooms are cleaned after every use  
  • All hot tubs and cold plunges utilize state-of-the-art water purification systems
  • Lodging rooms are thoroughly cleaned between each stay 
  • Even our behind the-scenes work and storage areas are spotless

Masks

  • Guests and staff may choose whether to wear facemasks in the facility
  • Therapists will wear a mask in treatment rooms upon request

Ventilation

  • We monitor carbon dioxide levels in all interior spaces to assure adequate fresh air exchange  
  • HVAC systems, windows, and vent fans provide fresh air makeup
  • All tubs are open air

Air Filtration

  • MERV13 filters are used in all HVAC systems, filtering out 85% of all COVID-sized particles  
  • HEPA filters are in use in all treatment rooms, capturing 99% of these particles

Germicidal UltraViolet Light

  • There is upper air germicidal UV light in the massage lobby and the izanami dining room.  
  • We use 254 nanometer UVC, the most effective wavelength for killing pathogens.  
  • In-duct germicidal UV is used in the HVAC systems at the restaurant

Keeping you safe

Due to increased awareness of the airborne nature of some diseases like COVID and flu, you will see some folks on both sides of the counter wearing masks. Therapists will wear a mask in the treatment room, if requested. Ten Thousand Waves emphasizes best practices to reduce the transmission of pathogens.
